Waitrose currently supports successful Foundations in South Africa, Kenya and Ghana. But this is about to change.
A strategy is being developed to expand the footprint of the Waitrose Foundation globally. By rolling out Foundations in the majority of developing countries from where fresh produce is sourced, greater awareness will be created amongst Waitrose customers for the work of the Foundations aimed at improving the lives of farm workers and their families.
The global Waitrose Foundation family will therefore grow significantly over the next couple of years. Eventually most of the fresh produce sourced from developing countries will proudly be labelled as originating from farms where the ethical and sustainable approach to community wellness, as introduced by the Waitrose Foundation, is embraced.
The Waitrose Foundation (Southern Africa) is looking forward to welcoming more Southern African countries in its fold. We will endeavour to empower key managers and worker committees from these countries, in different social development strategies and programmes, to the same extent we currently do in South Africa and Namibia. We hope to achieve similar positive impact on the well-being of the workers and their families operating at the source of the supply chain to Waitrose Supermarket.
