On 16 December we held a successful family day on Dwarsrivier Farm (Cederberg Cellars) involving its workers and workers from surrounding farm communities. The3 different farms involved in the event were Dwarsrivier, Kromrivier and Vogelfontein and about 50 people participated in the event.

Activities included soccer games for the men and flower arrangement training for the women. Vogelfontein and Kromrivier farms combined to play against Dwarsrivier. Dwarsrivier won the game 6-1. It was the first time soccer was played with a sponsored sports kit. The men were very excited.

The flower arrangement training was done by Pat Engelbrecht. The women were very excited about learning these skills. Some never thought that you could do such extraordinary things with flowers. They can’t wait until the next training session. Further training was proposed to be held on the 31st of March 2012.

A ‘braai’ was arranged by the Dwarsrivier Farm before the soccer games for the benefit of players from all three farms. Afterwards cool drinks and ‘worsrolletjies’ was sold. The money will be used for organising future events.
The goals of the project were to get more youth involved in the farm activities and to increase cooperation amongst the farm workers and surrounding communities.

The project succeeded in achieving these goals and inspired the worker committee to plan similar projects in the future that can contribute to building a better farm community.
