It is always a source of great encouragement for our Waitrose Foundation team when we receive reports from our grower partners about youth making their mark and giving of their time and talents to their community. A recent message received from Verdun farm was heart-warming and also a proud moment. Verdun is one of our grower partners in the Witzenberg district, near Prince Alfred's Hamlet.
Heinrich Fortuin, who has been involved in the Year Beyond (Yeboneers) group since the start of 2022, supported by our Regional Coordinator, Eleanor Louw, continued his active involvement in his local community this year by spending Sunday mornings offering additional learning assistance to children of some of the farm workers of Verdun. Heinrich has gone well beyond the call of duty and we recognise and value him for his enthusiasm and hard work. He is making a significant difference at Verdun as well as through various Year Beyond programmes in his community.
