Waitrose Foundation At Work

Impactful Psychosocial Resilience Training through Art and Drama

February 2024

Within the first week of February a group from one of our Waitrose Foundation growers, Madikwe Berry (through exporter BerryWorld SA) attended the Psychosocial Resilience workshop hosted by our service provider, Spieel Arts Collective. Art and drama were used as a medium of introduction and to explore emotional and psychosocial awareness.

The group also mapped their communities and place of work, talking through what is working and what needs attention. During this process participants were finding a happy medium for community, home and work life. Each participant was doing deep work, applying deep thinking, and actively solution seeking.

A quote from one of the participants: "To me, emotional awareness is knowing when I am feeling present in myself and others such as my family and my team members. It helps me to lead with greater efficiency." - Cordelia Mawela, Madikwe Berry

After the two-day Psychosocial Resilience workshop, the group of ladies returned for a third day. Spieel had prepared the room for the start of the Reproductive Health Programme. There was lots of excitement in the room because clay was the first resource they would be working with. See a separate report in February on the Reproductive Health Programme for this group.
