Our Manager Farm Support, Raymond Engelbrecht, recently visited grower partner Dasdrif farm in Moorreesburg in the Western Cape and received a very encouraging update about the newly established creche on the farm. Raymond met with Ezoné Marais, principal at the creche since January 2021. The four staff members are Sofie, Sara, Lee-Ann and Mynie.
During peak packing time on the farm in December 2020 there were on average 30 kids in the creche - from ages 6-8 months right up to 9 years of age. The most kids the team accommodated on one day were 34! The school-going farm children also come to the creche after school. The number of kids in the creche is directly impacted by what is happening on the farm (busy vs quieter periods) and the team plans according to that flow.
The creche is now offering the CAMI program for school-going children attending in the afternoon and assistance with the kids' homework is also an important focus. We are encouraged by the update from Ezoné, and we wish her and her team strength and wisdom for the year ahead.
