We received a wonderful report from the Mouton Foundation on the 29th of May 2024: “Last night we celebrated the formal opening of the Mouton Foundation Health Centre. It was a wonderful evening as we celebrated the restoration of an 120 year old building as a symbol of restoration of a healthy community.
The Health Centre has been functional since February. The health team is managed by our wonderful nurse practitioner, Sister Sybel Steenkamp, who shared her heartfelt words of gratitude during the opening ceremony for everyone involved in making our dream a reality. We were happy that our funders and service providers from the public and private sectors could attend this special night with us and celebrate both what we have achieved together, and future collaborations in health.
As a health centre our primary focus is preventative health and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. This is achieved through regular health checks for the most vulnerable, including chronic disease monitoring and awareness raising. A social worker and occupational health nurse also visit the centre weekly for consultations. Workers and their immediate family members with illnesses are also treated here and referred to doctors/specialists when needed.”
