Waitrose Foundation supporting the Year Beyond group in the Witzenberg

September 2022

We visited the Ceres area on 6 September for quality connections with the Year Beyond (Yeboneers) group, busy with practical components of their 2022 training programme. As the Waitrose Foundation we are one of the supporting partners of the programme. Year Beyond is a Youth Service partnership between the Western Cape government, the Community Chest and various foundations and local NGO's, aiming to provide 18 to 25 year olds with meaningful work experience and a pathway to further studies.

Closely involved with and supporting the group in the Witzenberg is our Regional Coordinator (South), Eleanor Louw, pictured here with the group at Mooi Uitsig Primary School. Also present was Heinrich Fortuin, the partial-care facilitator of Verdun farm. He is also a Year Beyond intern.

On the 6th of September, Raymond Engelbrecht, our Manager Farm Support, joined Eleanor for a number of very productive visits to schools in the area where the Yeboneers are involved with various projects. Raymond encouraged the group to end their year strong. He used the analogy of farm workers who work extremely hard throughout the year to prepare quality fresh produce for export to overseas markets, and in the same way they should and can deliver quality work at every opportunity. We wished the group all the best for the remaining few months of their programme.
