Foundation grower partner, Nel Brothers farms, host an annual soccer and netball tournament for their farm workers on their Rooipad farm. Waitrose Foundation Regional Manager, Hilda Links, attended their sports day this year.
The Foundation supports various projects in the Northern Cape on grower partner farms and sport facilities are given particular focus. Especially in rural areas, having access to well- maintained sports fields is of huge value to the farm workers and their families.
Sports events like these bring the whole community together and create a fantastic positive atmosphere among workers. It also encourages the teams as well as individual sportsmen and women to train and excel in their particular disciplines with the aim to potentially compete on a regional or national level.
