Waitrose Foundation At Work

Working together to expand future possibilities for children

February 2018

The implementation of the Waitrose Foundation Education Strategy which started in 2012 opened the world of knowledge and information for children at 90 Aftercare Centres across South Africa.

Aftercare facilitators, who are willing farm workers with a passion for the improvement of students’ education, are key role players in the implementation of this strategy. The Foundation therefore prioritises investment in the training, development and support of these facilitators to ensure effectiveness of programmes as well as the sustainability of the centres.

Regional training sessions that already started in 2018, focused on issues such as Identifying Conceptual Gaps in Mathematics & Literacy as well as Remedial Methods. For example-16 Aftercare facilitators attended a workshop in January at Monteith Training Centre. It was designed to empower them to implement teaching strategies on a combined total of 342 students on their respective farms. Progress will be monitored and the impact evaluated.
