July 2018
Boomerang farm launched a social development initiative that impacts 60-70 children in Valley Road, Grabouw, Western Cape. The success of their afterschool programme that offers academic, sport and cultural development opportunities attracted children from neighbouring farms as well. The academic component of their programme includes computer aided numeracy and literacy support for primary and high school learners. Marked improvement in their academic performance became evident, which contributed to increased parent support for the programme – the attendance over a short period of time increased from 12 to 70 children.
The main aim of the programme is to provide a stimulating environment for children to engage socially and participate in structured personal and academic development activities.
The success of the initiative is also attracting the interest of potential strategic partners such as the Overberg Cricket Academy, the local municipality and owners of the neighbouring farms.
The Valley Road Development Team will consist of 3 coaches and 2 social workers, who will work closely with representatives from the participating farms, led by the project coordinator of Boomerang Farm.
It is true that “It takes a ‘Valley’ (Village) to raise a Child.”
